IndianJadiBooti Amaltas Phali - Cassia Fistula Pods
What is Amaltas Phali (Cassia Fistula Pods):
Amaltas Phali (Cassia Fistula Pods) are the Pods that grows on Amaltas Tree. Amaltas is a miracle herb that can be found in India. It's a deciduous tree that has yellow flowers and is considered one of the most beautiful trees of India. Amaltas is also known as Rajvraksha in Ayurveda, which means "the king of herbs." Amaltas will grow to a height of 25 cm and has alternate, ovate-shaped leaves with four to eight leaflets on either side. The fruit pods are mostly green when ripe and brown when they reach maturity, whereas the flowers are usually bright yellow pentamerous and slightly zygomorphic in shape and occur in bunches.
The plant usually prefers a deep, well-drained, moderately fertile sandy loamy soil but can also grow on calcareous, red, and volcanic soils. The plant is usually found growing in the rain forest, seasonally dry forest, woodland, riverine gallery forest, wooded grassland on dry scrub, thickets and coastal areas at low altitudes near gardens.
Uses:
Amaltas is a great remedy for constipation. It helps to manage constipation due to its Sramsana nature. Amaltas can also be used as a remedy for Vata and Pitta dosha. Amaltas comprises an array of bioactive constituents including Glycosides, Anthraquinones, Fistulic Acid, Sennosides, Sugars, Saccharose, Mucilage, Pectin, Anthraquinones, Rhein and Rheinglucoside. These constituents help to improve digestion and increase the flow of digestive juices in the gastrointestinal tract.
The young leaves and flower buds of amaltas can be cooked in the form of a stew. The tender leaves when taken as a soup can be good for digestion because of their astringent property; this property also helps to reduce gas formation in the stomach. The astringent property of the bark is used in betel paste; whereas pulp of plant parts can be used as a spice and added to enhance taste of various cuisines.
Constipation is caused due to an aggravated Vata dosha which leads to constipation if you consume junk food frequently or excess intake of coffee or tea which aggravates Vata dosha leading to constipation.
Benefits:
Amaltas is a herb that helps to manage piles and rheumatoid arthritis.
Piles are a common problem among those who live a sedentary lifestyle, eating a poor diet, and are over-consuming alcohol. This causes an impairment of all three doshas, mainly Vata. An aggravated Vata causes a low digestive fire, leading to constipation. This causes swelling in the veins in the rectum area leading to pile mass. Amaltas helps to manage constipation due to its Sramsana (simple purgative) property. This also reduces the size of pile mass.
Hyperacidity means an increased level of acid in the stomach. An aggravated Pitta impairs the digestive fire, leading to improper digestion of food and production of Ama (acidity). This Ama gets accumulated in the digestive channels and causes hyperacidity. Amaltas helps to reduce hyperacidity by reducing the Ama from being absorbed into the blood stream through proper digestion process. The herbs in Amaltas also help remove the accumulated Ama from the digestive channel so that it doesn't cause hyperacidity anymore!
