Anjbar, often known as knotgrass, is a plant related to dock and buckwheat. It is also known as low grass, bird weed, pigweed, and prostrate knotweed. It is an annual that grows in fields and wasteland and blooms from June to October with white flowers. It is common in many temperate-zone countries, appears to be native to Eurasia and North America, and has naturalised in temperate zones of the Southern Hemisphere.

Knotgrass has low-lying, spreading stems that can grow up to one metre in length. The most common way to identify it is when it appears as a little, slightly spinally round growth with white flowers and tiny leaves.

Anjbar is produced of Beej Anjbar (Polygonum Bistorta), which has been used for years in the Unani Medical System to treat digestive issues, particularly diarrhoea. Tannins, a chemical component of Polygonum Bistorta, are useful for treating diarrhoea and mouth and throat discomfort. Besides helpful for dysenteric illnesses, Sharbat Anjbar also acts as an anti-hemorrhagic and prevents bleeding. It helps control heavy menstrual bleeding in menorrhagia. Patients with cholera, gastritis, and cystitis can benefit from it.
