Marodphali, also known as the East-Indian screw tree, is a small sub-deciduous tree or shrub with grey-colored bark. Marodphali is referred to as a medicinal plant that is used to treat a variety of illnesses. Due to the fruit's screw-like appearance, the East Indian Screw is also known as Marodphali, Marorphali, and other variations. In traditional medicine, marodphali is used to treat diarrhoea, constipation, and snake bites in infants. According to Ayurveda, Marodphali soothes agitated pitta and kapha in both the upper and lower body. Marodphalis are traditionally thought to be utilised to increase physical toughness and endurance.

Ayurveda claims that seeds are astringent and fruit should be utilised for colic and gastrointestinal distress. Marodphali functions as an antioxidant and aids in blood purification. In order to maintain low blood sugar levels, regular use of Marodphali may aid in the proper use of sugar molecules from the intestine. The fruit of the East Indian screw tree aids in proper digestion by encouraging intestinal muscle relaxation. According to a scientific study, Helicteres includes tannins and quinolone alkaloid, which help to lessen the frequency of loose stools and, if any, intestinal infections. Paste can be applied externally to help reduce pigmentation and irritation. Castor oil and Marodphali seeds powder were used well in the past to treat ulcers and ear discharge.
