It has been used as a food and medicine for thousands of years to treat anemia, scurvy, skin problems, blood disorders, and depression. 

If you collect them in the wild, try to select ones that have not been exposed to pesticides, fertilizers, or other chemicals. The ones in your yard are usually not the best. Instead, gather them from a mountain meadow or an abandoned lot. 

Promotes and Stimulates Digestion:

Dandelion ( Taraxacum Officinale) works as a mild laxative, aiding digestion, stimulating appetite, and balancing the natural and beneficial bacteria in the intestines. It can increase the production of stomach acid and bile, which aids digestion, particularly of fats. 

Prevents Water Retention in the Kidneys:

This weed-like superfood is a natural diuretic, which increases urine production and frequency of urination to help the kidneys clear out waste, salt, and excess water. It's called pissenlit in French, which roughly translates to 'wet the bed.' This prevents urinary tract infections by inhibiting microbial growth in the urinary system. 

Dandelion also helps to replenish some of the potassium lost during the process.  In a 2009 study, volunteers were given high-quality fresh dandelion leaf hydroethanolic extract.
The results showed that dandelion extract increased urine output and frequency in two out of three cases. 

Detoxifies the Liver:

Dandelion has been shown in studies to improve hepatic function by detoxifying the liver and restoring hydration and electrolyte balance. It also increases bile production and release. This medicinal plant can slow the progression of carbon tetrachloride-induced liver fibrosis or scarring. 

Boosts Antioxidant Activity:

Every part of the dandelion plant is high in antioxidants, which protect cells and DNA from free radical damage, slowing the ageing process in our cells. It contains vitamin C and A as beta-carotene and boosts the liver's production of superoxide dismutase. 

Has Been Used In Cancer Research:

The ability to fight cancer is not something to be taken lightly, but dandelion appears to show promise in study after study. Dandelion has the potential to slow cancer growth and prevent it from spreading. 

Dandelion root has been shown to induce apoptosis or cell death in prostate and pancreatic cells. 

Reduces Cholesterol Levels:

Dandelion (Taraxacum Officinale) boosts bile production and reduces inflammation, which can help with gallbladder issues and blockages.
