Editor's Note: Of course, we all live in different areas, with different rules and regulations for returning to the cinema. If you live somewhere where theaters are back open, and you have seen the film, try to be respectful of those who have not. Let's refrain from putting spoilers in the comments below.
On Thursday night, on the west side of New York City, we premiered our latest installment in the link series to a packed audience in a movie theater complete with popcorn, soda (and some very lovely Scotch courtesy of our friends at Bruichladdich). Compared to the Lange 1, which has become supremely popular in recent years, the Saxonia series remains criminally underrated. The black dial is pleasantly minimal with its slim golden indices marking the hours, and the date at twelve o'clock achieves a balanced sense of visual harmony in concert with the small seconds subdial directly beneath at six o'clock. Through simplicity, this take on the Saxonia perfectly exhibits the understated elegance that defines A. Lange & Söhne design ethos.
This fall, SWC reorganized its U.S. company, creating a new subsidiary called Grand Seiko Corp. of America (GSA). "By establishing this new company, we are committed to changing our business model in this market," Akio Naito, GSA's chairman and CEO, told HODINKEE. "This move expresses our focus on the high end of the market, on Grand Seiko as opposed to core Seiko. The high end is the future of the brand in this market."
