IndianJadiBooti Chadila - Charila - Chareela - Stone Flower - Patthar Phool - Dagad Phool - Parmelia perlata
Form: Raw Herb - Flower
In India, the lichen Parmelia Perlata , which is a member of the Parmeliaceae family and represents a close symbiotic relationship between algae and fungi, is known as "Stone Flower" and "Charila." It is commonly found in mountainous regions of the Indian subcontinent and has historically been used to treat conditions like bronchitis, excessive salivation, vomiting, toothaches, boils, and inflammations.
Aside from these conditions, it has also been linked to seminal weakness, nocturnal emission, amenorrhea, leucorrhea, dyspepsia, calculi, blood and heart conditions, stomach problems, enlarged spleen, bleeding piles, scabies, leprosy, general aches, etc. It strengthens the urinary system and inhibits the development of calculi.
Many herbal preparations used in many medical systems contain Parmelia perlata as a key ingredient. It is an essential component of many dosage forms used in both allopathic and ayurvedic systems of medicine, including Pathrina , Calcury (Aimil Pharmaceuticals India Ltd.), and Neeri (Aimil Pharmaceuticals India Ltd.). These formulations are used particularly for kidney function restoration and renal stone treatment.
1. Cytotoxic Function
Parmelia perlata's methylolic extract was discovered to have cytotoxic properties and to exhibit antiproliferative properties against colon cancer cell lines.
2. Possible Hypolipidemic State
Parmelia perlata methylolic extract was found to have considerable hypolipidemic action.
3. Antiviral Function
The cytotoxicity of the polysaccharide portion of Parmelia perlata was examined. Using the end-point cytopathic effect assay, the antiviral capabilities were assessed against the chicken infectious bursal disease virus, yellow fever, and poliomyelitis. L20, HEP-2, and Vero cell lines were shown to be the most sensitive. It was discovered that the fraction has particular antiviral potential for the yellow fever virus. The primary mechanism of preventing yellow fever infection was believed to
include lichen's polysaccharide portion attacking the viral envelope.
