Description
Shital Chini, also known as Cubeb, Piper Cubeba, Tailed Pepper and Kabab Chini are the dried berries from the Piper Cubeba Tree. There is a small tail attached to each berry of Shital Chini, hence it is popularly known as Tailed Pepper. Sheetal Chini, also known as KababChini, is a long-lasting woody vine with gray climbing stems and branches that take root at the joints. The medicinal component is the dried, mature but unripe fruit, which has a pungent, fragrant scent and a slightly bitter and sharp taste.
Health benefits of Shital Chini:
Shital Chini for Dysentery:
Sheetal Chini aids in managing mucus by enhancing digestion through its appetizing and digestive qualities. Its anti-parasitic nature also helps eliminate the dysentery-causing organism.
Kabab Chini for Intestinal gas:
Gas formation occurs due to Vata and Pitta dosha imbalance. Reduced Pitta and increased Vata result in weak digestion, leading to flatulence. Sheetal Chini enhances digestion and prevents gas formation due to its appetizing and digestive properties.
Tailed Pepper for Gonorrhea:
This bacterial infection, caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae, may be managed with Sheetal Chini due to its antimicrobial properties. It impedes microbial growth and reduces bacterial activity, potentially helping to control gonorrhea.
Shital Chini for Bad Breath:
Sheetal Chini helps combat halitosis. Traditionally, a Sheetal Chini paste has been used as a mouthwash for various oral issues, including bad breath.
Bad Breath Remedy:
- Prepare ½-1 teaspoon of Sheetal Chini powder.
- Add water to create a paste.
- Use for gargling once or twice daily to address bad breath.
Potential Uses for Cancer
Cancer, characterized by the abnormal rapid multiplication of body cells, can affect any organ and spread to others. Kabab chini fruit extract might induce the death of cancerous cells in breast and colon cancers. Cubebin, a compound in the extract, may also inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells in the neck and head. While this suggests that kabab chini could assist in cancer treatment, it should not replace ongoing treatment.
Potential Uses for Kidney Disease
The kidneys play a vital role in removing waste products and excess water from the body. The flavonoids and alkaloids in kabab chini can reduce kidney stone formation by altering urine composition. Shital chini also lowers serum urea and creatinine levels, prevents urine retention, and aids in healing ulcers in the urinary tract. While this points to potential benefits for kidney health, it should not be used as a medicine substitute without consulting a doctor.
Potential Uses for Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory condition affecting the joints. Shital chini plant extracts contain bioactive compounds that can reduce inflammation. Although further research is needed, the study suggests it might serve as an adjuvant therapy for inflammatory disorders. Consulting a doctor before using kabab chini for rheumatoid arthritis is recommended.
Potential Uses for Liver Damage
The liver is crucial for digestion, nutrient breakdown, hormone production, and toxin removal. Damage to this organ is a serious health concern. Kabab chini extract could enhance antioxidant activity, reducing oxidative stress responsible for cellular damage, boosting protein metabolism, and promoting liver cell regeneration. While these findings suggest protective effects against liver damage, it is essential to consult a doctor before self-medicating with kabab chini for liver-related issues.
Potential Uses for Gonorrhoea
Gonorrhoea, a sexually transmitted disease caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae, might be prevented by kabab chini extracts. These extracts could reduce the growth of the bacteria and destroy their cell walls, leading to bacterial death. Consulting a doctor is necessary for effective treatment of gonorrhoeal infections using kabab chini.

FAQ
No, they are not similar. Sheetal Chini or Kabab Chini looks near similar to black pepper, but with stalks attached to the tail. This gives it a common name, tail pepper. The odor of tail pepper is aromatic and the taste is pungent and slightly bitter. Kabab Chini’s oil is not as peppery in the aroma as black pepper essential oil. It is softer, warm, and has a woody fragrance.
