What is Khas Root (Powder) - Khus Jad (Vetiveria Zizanioides):

Vetiveria zizanioides, also known as the vetiver grass, is a native plant of Asia. It has been introduced into the tropics of both hemispheres; it has escaped cultivation and become a weed in some regions. The plant is sometimes grown as a hedge and is useful in dryland restoration to reduce soil erosion.

It grows to 1.5 m (5 feet) tall with a similar spread, depending on altitude and conditions. In temperate climates it can be pruned back to 1 ft. The thin leaves are evergreen, long and linear, with serrated edges and a smooth surface. The stems are erect, rigid and brown-purple in colour. Small brown-purple flowers appear in long spikes at the ends of these stems over several months of the year (September to April). The leaves die off after flowering but new shoots grow from root buds that mark the end of winter and spring (March/April).

Uses:

Khas Root (Powder) is an Ayurvedic herb that's been used for centuries in India as a healing agent. It can be taken internally or applied topically to help manage headaches, skin conditions, and more.

Internally: The decoction of Khas Powder when taken with milk and sugar at least once a day for about a week helps to get rid from the unpleasant body odor caused due to extreme sweating.

Topically: Make a paste of Khas powder and Sandal Powder and apply over the face. It helps in supporting healthy skin and complexion.

Mix crushed almonds, Khas Powder in equal quantity and rock sugar according to taste. Mix all and store in an airtight bottle. Take 2-3 spoons twice a day for a healthy body.
Apart from the above-mentioned internal usage of Khas, it is also found useful when used as a powder or paste to treat acne, skin infection, dry scalp, excessive sweating, and other issues such as stomach aches or indigestion.
