Description
Tagara also known as Sugandha-Bala or Indian Valerian or Bala-tagra helps in relieving digestive disorders. It also helps in reliving stomach pain and cramps. Sugandh Bala (Valerian Root) is an herb native to Europe and parts of Asia. It has a long history of use as a sedative. Valerian can grow to be just over 6 feet tall and has a strong odor.
Tagar, a bushy, hairy herb, thrives in the temperate Himalayan and Khasia regions. Roots of Tagar are known for alleviating and enhancing sleep quality because they soothe the central nervous system with their sedative and anxiolytic characteristics.
They are effective in regulating blood pressure by relaxing smooth muscles and improving blood circulation, thanks to their ability to lower blood pressure.
Additionally, Tagar is effective in relieving muscle pain due to its antispasmodic and pain-relieving properties. In traditional Ayurvedic practice, consuming Tagar powder mixed with milk is known to promote deep sleep, leveraging its properties that balance Vata.
Applied topically, Tagar is beneficial for treating skin conditions as it prevents the multiplication of skin pathogens, attributed to its antibacterial and antimicrobial traits. However, because of its sedative effects, it is recommended to avoid consuming it alongside other sedatives or CNS depressants to prevent prolonged drowsiness.
Tagar (Sugandha-Bala) for Heart Health:
Tagar may contribute to lowering blood pressure and reducing heart rate. It has also been incorporated in a German cardiac tonic aimed at achieving stability between the brain and heart.
Tagar for the Digestive System:
Traditionally, Tagar (Sugandh Bala) has been employed to alleviate intestinal spasms, nervous stomach (digestion impacted by stress), and colic (intense abdominal pain common in infants). Its bitter taste is known to aid digestion and enhance appetite. Additionally, Tagar can serve as a carminative, helping to expel gas.
Tagar for the Nervous System:
Tagar could be beneficial in treating sleep disturbances, unease, and anxiety. It may also serve as a muscle relaxant.
