What is Gorakhmundi (Sphaeranthus indicus):

Gorakhmundi can be used as a herbal medicine to deal with boils. Actually, Gorakhmundi has anti-microbial, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, which can be useful in improving the condition of boils along with relieving bacteria and fungus.

Gorakhmundi grows best in dry climates and is often found near cliffs or along riverbanks. The plant is tall, with stems up to 2 meters tall; the lower part of each stem branches into many individual twigs and small leaves. The leaves are usually ovate in shape and pointed at the tips, though they can be roundish or lanceolate in shape. In late summer, white flowers appear on short stalks above leafless bracts at the top of each branch; these are followed by red fruits.

The name of this plant comes from its flowers which are white like stars on a dark night sky; hence it was named after stars which resemble stars because they are bright at night but they are not visible during day time.
