What Is Khubkala?

Hedge Mustard or  Khubkala (Khoobkala) belongs to the family of Brassicaceae. In India this plant generally found in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Kashmir, Punjab and Haryana. Hedge Mustard plant blooms in July and August. It is found on roadside and wasteland, and as a weed of arable land. Khubkala Hedge Mustard is used in Ayurveda for treatment of many diseases. The seeds of the herb are our and pungent in taste. Khubkala Hedge Mustard seeds look like mustard seeds, but these are altogether different.

Khubkala Hedge Mustard is a good source of vitamins and minerals. It contains protein, calcium, phosphorus, fiber and carbohydrates.

It is very beneficial to cure diseases like cough, asthma and typhoid. Its Efficacy is extremely hot.

This plant is used for treating cough, asthma, loss of voice, fever, chest congestion etc. This plant is also known as singer plant because of its use in treating loss in voice.

Hedge Mustard have a bitter flavor and they are used in salads or cooked as a vegetable. they are rich in protein, vitamin c, fiber and mineral. 

Khubkala seeds contain glycosides which act on contractile force of the cardiac muscles and are mostly used in the treatment of cardiac failure.

  • An herbal tea can be made by using 50 gm of fresh herb in 1 liter of water.
  • Leaves of khubkala can be used in seeds and garnishing.
  • Khubkala seeds with leaves of kasni can be used in treating diarrhea.
  • The decoction of seeds can be given in smallpox.

In the case of typhoid, Khoobkala Hedge Mustard can be consumed in following ways:

1. Boil it in water and milk, and then drink that water or milk along with Khub kala

2. Wrap munakka with khoob kala Hedge Mustard seeds, and bake it on frying pan. Eat 7 to 8 Munakkas warm along with Khubkala Hedge Mustard Seeds.
