Cedarwood Essential Oil is a steam-distilled extract from the wood of the Cedrus deodara tree, native to the Himalayas. It contains high levels of cedrol, which gives it its sedative and antiseptic properties.
- Rasa (Taste): Tikta (Bitter).
- Virya (Potency): Ushna (Heating).
- Guna (Qualities): Laghu (Light) and Snigdha (Unctuous/Oily).
- Dosha Impact: Strongly pacifies Vata (anxiety/dryness) and Kapha (mucus/lethargy). Use with care for high Pitta (heat) due to its warming nature.
Core Ayurvedic Benefits
1. Nervous System Grounding (Majja Dhatu)
Cedarwood is a premier oil for Anidra (insomnia) and anxiety. Its grounding scent helps settle a "racing mind" and stabilizes the Prana Vayu (the sub-dosha of the brain), promoting deep, restorative sleep.
2. Hair & Scalp Rejuvenation (Keshya)
It is highly effective for treating Dandruff and Hair Thinning. Its antimicrobial properties cleanse the scalp, while its Ushna (heating) quality stimulates blood flow to the hair follicles, encouraging growth.
3. Respiratory Support
Due to its heating and penetrating nature, it helps liquefy and expel stubborn Kapha (mucus) from the lungs and sinuses. It is traditionally used to soothe chronic coughs and bronchitis.
4. Skin Detoxification
As an astringent and antiseptic, it helps balance oily skin and treat acne. It "scrapes" away excess sebum and toxins from the pores without over-drying the skin.

Consultant’s Professional Notes & Precautions
- Dilution is Mandatory: Because this is a Teekshna (sharp) essential oil, never apply it directly to the skin. Always use a carrier oil like Sesame or Coconut.
- Avoid Internal Use: This essential oil is for external use and aromatherapy only. Do not ingest it.
- Pitta Warning: If you have very sensitive skin or are prone to inflammatory rashes, perform a patch test on your inner arm first.
- Meditation Ally: Use this oil during your morning Sadhana or meditation to help center your energy and improve focus.
