In the profound world of Dravya Guna (Ayurvedic Pharmacology), Chitrak Mool (Plumbago zeylanica) is known as the "Fire-Starter." It is one of the most powerful Deepana (appetizer) and Pachana (digestive) herbs. Its primary quality is Ushna (intense heat), making it the ultimate tool for destroying Ama (metabolic toxins) and balancing Kapha and Vata.

How to Use Chitrak Mool Powder

Because of its intense "Teekshna" (sharp/piercing) nature, Chitrak Mool is rarely used in large quantities. It is often purified (Shodhana) in lime water to reduce its toxicity before use.

1. For Sluggish Digestion & No Appetite

  • Dosage: 500mg to 1g (a small pinch).
  • Vehicle: Warm Water or Honey.
  • Timing: 15 minutes before meals.
  • Consultant's Tip: Mix it with a little Ginger juice to "wake up" the stomach.

2. For Chronic Bloating & Gas

  • Dosage: 1g.
  • Vehicle: Fresh Buttermilk (Chaas) with a pinch of roasted cumin.
  • Timing: During or after lunch.
  • Why: Buttermilk is cooling, which balances the intense heat of Chitrak while aiding the digestion of fats.

3. For Weight Management (Fat Metabolism)

  • Dosage: 1g.
  • Vehicle: Warm Water and a teaspoon of Honey.
  • Timing: Early morning on an empty stomach.

4. For Joint Pain (Vata-type stiffness)

  • Dosage: 1g.
  • Vehicle: Take with Warm Water or as part of the formula Chitrakadi Vati.
  • Timing: Twice daily after meals.

The Benefits of Chitrak Mool Powder

1. The Ultimate Digestive Igniter (Deepana-Pachana)

Chitrak is the lead herb in many digestive formulas (like Chitrakadi Vati).

  • Benefit: It cures Aruchi (loss of appetite) and Agnimandya (weak digestion). If you feel that food sits in your stomach for hours like a heavy stone, Chitrak provides the heat necessary to "cook" and move that food.

2. Fat Metabolism & Weight Loss (Lekhana)

  • Benefit: It acts as a Lekhaniya agent, meaning it "scrapes" excess fat (Medas) from the tissues. It is highly effective for those with a sluggish metabolism who struggle to lose weight despite a low-calorie diet.

3. Management of Piles & Hemorrhoids (Arshoghna)

  • Benefit: It is one of the best herbs for "Dry Piles" (Vata-Kapha Arsha). It improves the tone of the rectal muscles, reduces the size of the pile mass by clearing local congestion, and corrects the underlying constipation.

4. Joint Pain & Inflammation (Vata-Hara)

  • Benefit: Since most joint pain is caused by the accumulation of Ama (toxins) in the joints, Chitrak’s heating property "melts" these toxins. It is excellent for Rheumatoid Arthritis and chronic muscle stiffness where the pain feels "cold" or heavy.

5. Liver & Spleen Support

  • Benefit: It stimulates the liver to produce bile and helps in reducing the size of an enlarged spleen. It clears the "dampness" of Kapha from the hepatic system.

6. Skin Disorders & Vitiligo

  • Benefit: In very specific, controlled doses, it is used to treat Shvitra (Vitiligo/Leukoderma) by stimulating the production of pigments and improving local blood circulation to the skin
