Dashmool also known as Dashamoola or Dashamula, refers to a unique combination of ten roots from specific plants, as listed below. Widely used in Ayurveda, this blend addresses numerous health issues, particularly those affecting the nerves, muscles, bones, and joints.

It possesses anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and moderate pain-relieving properties. It is a key component in various ayurvedic remedies and is effective in managing pain and inflammatory diseases related to the musculoskeletal system, such as osteoarthritis, gouty arthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Dashamula is not only popular for treating pain and inflammatory conditions but is also used as an enema to relieve constipation, anorexia, abdominal lumps, bloating, flatulence, lower back issues, and inflammation in the pelvic and sacral regions.

This distinct mixture comprises ten remarkable ayurvedic roots, each with unique properties. It includes '5 Brihat Panchamoola' (Bilva, Agnimantha, Kashmari, Shyonaka, and Patala) from large trees, and '5 Laghu Panchamoola' (Sarivan, Kantakari, Shalaparni, Prishniparni, and Gokhru) from smaller shrubs.

Ayurvedic Benefits of Dashmoola

Treats Respiratory Issues:

Thanks to its strong expectorant, anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, analgesic, and anti-asthmatic properties, dashamoola powder is highly effective against various respiratory ailments such as the common cold, cough, and flu symptoms. It helps clear rheum particles from the nasal passage and chest, and is beneficial for conditions like bronchitis, allergic rhinitis, whooping cough, and asthma.

Alleviates Arthritis:

Due to its significant pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties, Dashamoola is essential for minimizing joint and muscle pain, thus lowering the risk of chronic autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis. It also mitigates pain in the lower back, sacral regions, and lower limbs, and treats urinary infections, gulma, anemia, and liver problems caused by Vata Doshas imbalance.

Improves Digestion:

Beyond respiratory benefits, Dashamoola is also renowned for its digestive advantages. It neutralizes excess stomach acid, providing quick relief from acidity and heartburn, improves digestion, and reduces constipation. It boosts appetite, enhances nutrient absorption, and addresses issues like flatulence, abdominal cramps, and bloating.

Relieves Headaches:

Dashamoola is highly effective in alleviating chronic headaches and tension, often caused by excessive work, stress, or anxiety. It has a calming effect on irritated nerves, soothes the brain, improves nerve function, and alleviates migraine symptoms like vomiting, nausea, and gastrointestinal problems.

Reduces Fever:

With its powerful pain-relieving, fever-reducing, and temperature-lowering properties, Dashamoola is effective in treating various types of fever. It helps lower body temperature and is useful for intermittent and high fever, as well as fever associated with the common cold, flu, or influenza.

Manages Gout:

The inclusion of Triphala in this potent mixture provides strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-gout, and uric acid-lowering effects, thereby helping reduce serum uric acid levels. Additionally, Shuddha Gandhak, Guggulu, and castor oil work together to reduce inflammation, pain, and stiffness in individuals with elevated serum uric acid.

Addresses Paralysis:

Shatavari Guggul, known for its anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties, plays a crucial role in treating paralytic disorders. It enhances biological function and accelerates healing. When taken within a month after a paralytic attack, it’s highly beneficial in managing facial paralysis, hemiplegia, and other persistent paralysis cases.

Eases Muscle Pain:

Muscle soreness and stiffness arising from overuse, prolonged sitting or lying down, or new physical activities can be effectively treated with Shatavari Guggul. Its rich anti-inflammatory properties make it a long-standing remedy for muscle pain and cramps, and it significantly relieves various types of bodily pain and myalgia.

Dashmool, also called Dashamoola, is a classical Ayurvedic ten-root blend. It usually combines five larger tree roots such as Bilva, Agnimantha, Shyonaka, Patala and Gambhari with five smaller herbs such as Shalaparni, Prishniparni, Brihati, Kantakari and Gokhru. Because it is a multi-herb blend, identity and balanced composition matter more than one single ingredient.
Dashmool literally translates to "Ten Roots." It is one of the most famous and foundational formulations in Ayurveda, expertly blending 5 large tree roots and 5 smaller plant roots to provide the ultimate grounding support for Vata dosha.
Yes, Dashmool and Dashamoola generally refer to the same ten-root Ayurvedic group. Kwath means decoction, so Dashmool kwath usually refers to a boiled water preparation made from the whole coarse roots or root pieces rather than a ready capsule or extract.
Dashmool is traditionally associated with Vata-balancing formulations and is often searched in relation to body comfort, stiffness, recovery routines and postnatal Ayurvedic care. These are traditional-use contexts only and should not be treated as a substitute for medical care after delivery, surgery, fever or chronic illness.
Whole Dashmool is generally boiled in water as a decoction according to Ayurvedic practice. The exact quantity, water reduction and duration depend on the formulation and the person using it, so a qualified practitioner should decide the proper method and dose.
A good Dashmool mix should contain visibly different clean root and stem pieces, not just dust or one dominant herb. It should be dry, earthy, free from mold, insects, chemical smell, artificial color and excessive soil. A balanced coarse-cut mix is preferred for kwath preparation.
Pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, children, elderly people, and anyone with kidney disease, liver disease, blood pressure concerns, diabetes, chronic illness or regular medication should avoid self-use. Dashmool is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
