Rosehip Edible Oil—the oil from the seeds of the wild rose (Rosa canina)—as a superior "Pitta-Hara" (Pitta-destroying) and "Ropaṇa" (healing/repairing) agent.

While the Rose flower is cherished for its aroma, the seed oil is a concentrated source of "Prana" for the skin and blood. In Ayurveda, Rosehip is valued for its "Sheeta" (cooling) energy and its ability to nourish the "Bhrajaka Pitta"—the sub-dosha responsible for the skin's luster, color, and temperature.

Ayurvedic Profile of Rosehip

  • Rasa (Taste): Kashaya (Astringent) and Madhura (Sweet).
  • Guna (Qualities): Laghu (Light) and Ruksha (Dry).
  • Virya (Potency): Sheeta (Cooling).
  • Vipaka (Post-Digestive Effect): Madhura (Sweet).
  • Dosha Impact: Primarily balances Pitta and Kapha. Because it is light and dry, it is one of the best oils for those who find Sesame or Almond oil too heavy.

Core Ayurvedic Benefits

1. Skin Rejuvenation (Varnya & Rasayana)

Rosehip oil is exceptionally high in Vitamin A (natural Retinol) and Vitamin C. In Ayurveda, we use it to treat "Tvak Vaivarnya" (discoloration/pigmentation). It helps repair scars, stretch marks, and sun damage by cooling the "heat" that causes inflammation and cellular breakdown.

2. Blood & Heart Tonic (Rakta-Prasadhana)

When used as an Edible Oil, its high content of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids helps purify the blood and supports the Hridaya (heart). It helps soothe internal inflammation and supports the lining of the blood vessels.

3. Wound Healing (Sadyo-Ropaṇa)

Due to its Kashaya (astringent) property, it is a master at "knitting" tissues back together. It is traditionally used to speed up the healing of minor burns, acne scars, and environmental wear-and-tear.

4. Balancing "Sadhaka Pitta" (Emotional Calm)

Like all parts of the Rose family, this oil has a subtle effect on the heart center. It helps soothe the "Sadhaka Pitta," which governs emotions, helping to reduce irritability and frustration.

How to Use Rosehip Edible Oil

Purpose

Usage Method

For Hyperpigmentation

Topical: Apply 2-3 drops directly to damp skin at night. Focus on areas with spots or scars. It absorbs instantly.

For Internal Vitality

Internal: Add 1/2 teaspoon to your morning juice or drizzle over a cool salad. Note: Do not heat this oil, as high temperatures destroy its vitamins.

For Anti-Aging

Facial Massage: Use it as a base for a 5-minute Mukha Abhyanga (facial massage) to stimulate collagen and "lift" the skin.

For Eye Care

Under-Eye: Gently dab 1 drop under each eye to reduce dark circles and puffiness caused by heat and fatigue.

Consultant’s Professional Advice

  • The "Cold-Pressed" Necessity: Rosehip oil is very delicate. Heat extraction ruins its Vitamin A and C content. Only Cold Pressed oil (like yours) contains the true therapeutic potential.
  • Storage is Critical: Because it is a "dry" oil high in polyunsaturated fats, it can oxidize quickly. Keep it in a cool, dark place (refrigeration is even better) to keep its Prana alive.
  • Astringency Note: Because it is Ruksha (dry), if you have extremely dry "Vata" skin, mix it with a few drops of Almond oil or Ghee for a more grounded hydration.
