Seeds of Palash also known as Bilas papda and Tesu or Dhak Seeds are known for their laxative effects, their ability to promote urine production, and their anthelmintic or anti-parasitic features. The powdered form of these seeds is commonly utilized to treat infestations of intestinal worms.

In various regional languages, Palash is known by multiple names; it's called Muttagamara and Muttulu in Kannada, Pilacham and Palashin in Malayalam, while in Tamil it's referred to as Palashmaram and Chamata, also Parasa. In Telugu, the names Modugai, Paladu, Chettu are used.

The revered texts of Ayurveda recognize Palash through several Sanskrit designations such as Vakrapushpa, Bhramavruksha, Raktapushpa, Yagnika, and Samidha, each reflecting the plant's significance and attributes.

Bilas Papda, also known as Palash Beej or Tesu Seeds, are obtained from the tree Butea monosperma. They are traditionally referenced in herbal and seasonal practices.

Bilas Papda refers to seeds of Palash, also called Tesu, Dhak or Butea monosperma. They are different from Palash flowers, bark, gum and leaves, so the plant part matters when selecting a traditional ingredient.
Palash seeds are used traditionally in specific preparations and are not a casual food seed like sesame or sunflower. Use should be limited, informed and practitioner-guided, especially for internal use.
Butea monosperma seeds are commonly searched in relation to traditional krimi or gut-cleansing contexts. Such traditional use should be described carefully and should not be treated as a replacement for diagnosis or prescribed care.
Good Palash seeds should be dry, mature, clean, and free from mold, insects, stones, excess husk, rancid smell or artificial polishing. Avoid damp or powdery seeds, as they may deteriorate quickly.
Palash seeds and flowers come from the same tree but serve different traditional purposes. Flowers are often linked with color, cooling and festive use, while seeds are stronger raw material and need more caution.
Avoid self-use during pregnancy, breastfeeding, childhood, dehydration, gut disorders or ongoing medication. Palash seeds can be strong and should be used only in appropriate quantity under reliable guidance.
