Fruits are 3.8-5 cm long, smooth, orange or scarlet when ripe, single seeded berries with flesh and fibrous pericarp and a rocky seed. Fruits are ovoid, outwardly pale, reddish-brown to light yellowish-brown, and marked with a net of paler lines, as well as attaching parts of silvery brittle endocarp and adhering fibres of mesocorp at the base of the seed. Hard seed with ruminating endosperm of brownish tissue alternating with whitish tissue, distinctive odour, taste, and astringency.
