Shilajit
  • Also known as wild gourd or bitter apple, is a desert vine from the Cucurbitaceae family, commonly found in the arid regions of Asia, Africa, and the Mediterranean. Its roots, as well as other parts of the plant, have been used in traditional medicine for centuries, especially in Ayurvedic, Unani, and folk remedies.

Blood Sugar Regulation

Indrayan root has been studied for its antidiabetic properties, showing potential in reducing blood sugar levels and managing blood sugar symptoms.

Antimicrobial Action

The root possesses antimicrobial properties, which can help fight bacterial and fungal infections. It is used traditionally to treat wounds and skin infections, promoting faster healing.

For Constipation

Preparation: The root can be dried and powdered. About 50-100 mg of this powder is mixed with warm water or taken in capsule form.
Usage: Take it once a day, preferably before bedtime, to stimulate bowel movements and relieve constipation.

For Joint Pain and Inflammation

Preparation: The root is dried, ground into a fine powder, and mixed with a little warm water to form a paste.
Usage: Apply the paste externally to the affected area (joints, inflamed areas) and leave it on for 20-30 minutes.

Indrayan roots come from the bitter apple plant, Citrullus colocynthis, while Indrayan fruit is the dried gourd-like fruit of the same plant. The root is a separate raw herbal part used in traditional formulations, so buyers should not substitute root for fruit unless a qualified practitioner specifically asks for it.
Tumba or Indrayan is known for intense bitterness and strong traditional use, especially in classical systems where exact plant part and dose matter. Because Citrullus colocynthis can be harsh and potentially toxic in unsuitable use, the root should be handled as a specialist herb rather than a casual home remedy.
Good quality Indrayan Jadd should be dry, fibrous or woody, naturally coloured and free from fungus, insect damage, excess soil and artificial polishing. It should not smell damp or rotten. Correct botanical identity is important because root pieces from different plants can look similar after drying.
Self-use of Indrayan root for constipation is not recommended. Although the bitter apple plant has a history of strong purgative use, unsuitable quantity or wrong preparation can cause serious irritation, dehydration and other adverse effects. Persistent constipation should be discussed with a healthcare professional.
Pregnant or breastfeeding women, children, elderly people and anyone with intestinal inflammation, kidney disease, liver disease, dehydration or ongoing medicines should avoid unsupervised use of Tumba roots. This is a potent raw herb and should be used only with qualified guidance.
Store Indrayan roots in a clearly labelled airtight container away from food items, children, pets, heat and moisture. Because the herb is strong and bitter, it should not be mixed with everyday kitchen herbs or powders.
