Mamira (Coptis teeta / Thalictrum foliolosum) is a highly valued, bright yellow root. In traditional herbalism, it is renowned for its profoundly cooling, bitter, and clearing properties, primarily used to pacify excess Pitta.
Mamira root is a bitter yellowish root material traded as Indian Goldthread, commonly linked with Coptis teeta and sometimes regional Thalictrum material in herbal markets. Buyers search for it because of its intense bitter taste, berberine-rich identity and traditional use in specialised Ayurvedic and Himalayan herbal practice.
Mamira is not turmeric. Although it may look yellow, it is a different bitter root material associated with Coptis or related Himalayan goldthread trade names, while Haldi is Curcuma longa and Daru Haldi is Berberis aristata. Correct identity matters because each herb has different traditional use, taste, potency and safety profile.
Mamira is considered high-value because genuine Coptis teeta type material is limited, bitter, yellow, and associated with specialised traditional formulations. Because scarcity can lead to substitution or mixing, customers should buy from a trusted supplier and avoid material that looks artificially coloured or dusty.
Good Mamira should be dry, clean, naturally yellow to yellow-brown, strongly bitter and free from soil, fungus, insects and artificial colour. Uneven natural roots are normal, but very bright dyed pieces, weak bitterness or powdery broken waste may indicate inferior quality or substitution.
Mamira should not be used casually or daily without practitioner guidance. Bitter alkaloid-rich herbs may not suit pregnancy, breastfeeding, young children, liver or kidney issues, low blood sugar tendencies, or people taking regular medicines. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease.
Store Mamira roots in an airtight container away from moisture, sunlight and strong-smelling herbs. Because the material is valued for its natural bitterness and colour, keep it dry and protected from adulteration, insects and kitchen humidity.
