Stinging Nettle Leaves (Powder) (Urtica dioica) While Stinging Nettle is native to the Himalayas and Europe, Ayurveda recognizes it as a potent Vata-Kapha Hara (balancer of Vata and Kapha) with a unique ability to detoxify the blood and support the kidneys.
Core Ayurvedic & Health Benefits
1. Kidney & Urinary Support (Mutravaha Srotas)
- Natural Diuretic: It acts as a Mutrala (diuretic), helping to flush out toxins, excess uric acid, and urea from the kidneys.
- Creatinine Support: It is widely used as a supportive herb to help maintain healthy creatinine levels and prevent kidney stones.
2. Joint & Bone Health (Sandhivata)
- Anti-Inflammatory: Nettle is famous for reducing the inflammation associated with Gout and Arthritis. It helps clear the crystallization of uric acid in the joints.
- Mineral Rich: It is a powerhouse of iron, calcium, and magnesium, which helps strengthen the Asthi Dhatu (bone tissue).
3. Blood Purifier & Iron Booster
- Treats Anemia: Due to its exceptionally high iron and chlorophyll content, it is a premier natural supplement for increasing hemoglobin levels (Rakta-Vardhak).
- Detoxification: It cleanses the blood, making it highly effective for treating skin allergies, hives, and eczema.
4. Allergy & Respiratory Relief
- Anti-Histamine: It is one of the best natural treatments for Allergic Rhinitis (hay fever), reducing sneezing, itching, and nasal congestion.

Ayurvedic Consultant’s Notes & Precautions
- The "Sting" Mystery: The "sting" of the fresh plant is neutralized when the leaves are dried and powdered, making it perfectly safe to consume.
- Potency: It has a Ruksha (drying) quality. If you have a very dry constitution (High Vata), it is best to take Nettle with a little Ghee or healthy fats.
- Blood Thinning: Nettle contains Vitamin K, which helps in clotting, but it can also have a mild blood-thinning effect. If you are on blood-thinning medication (like Warfarin), consult your doctor first.
