Samak Rice tastes similar to normal rice. Also popularly known as Kuthiravali, Sama, Samvat, Shyama, Udalu, Khira, Swank and Vrat Ke Chawal, Barnyard Millet is gluten free, high in Iron content, fibre and has high antioxidants, and at the same time has much lesser calories than rice. It is 4-5 times nutritionally superior to rice and wheat!
It is mainly consumed during Navratri fasting occasions. It is good health option during fasting days.It is a good replacement for rice eaters and is a rich source of minerals and vitamins, providing essential nutrients. Since it is high in digestible fibres it becomes a healthy replacement for rice. Also known as shyama in Bengali, moraiyo in Gujarati, sanwa rice in Hindi, oodalu in Kannada, kuthiraivolly in Tamil and udalu in Telugu, they are almost like broken rice when cooked.
