What is Mayur Shikha - Adiantum Melanocanlum:
We all know that the peacock's tail is one of the most beautiful feathers in nature, but did you know there's a plant with a similar appearance? It's called Mayurashikha and it's native to India.
Mayurashikha is a type of fern related to Hamsapadi . The plant is found near and rocks crevices all over India in the temperate climate . It is a brownish green colored weak plant growing to a height of 0.5 to 1 feet with hair like structure in its body oval to semi - circular shape with serrated edges resembling the feathers of peacock . The laminae are 15-45 mm long and fan - shaped with a spread of some 180 degrees , the tip of each segment bearing 2-5 teeth . Small seeds are seen at the edges of the leaf .
This plant is easily obtained. It looks like a peacock crest, hence it is called peacock crest. This plant is called Lal Morg or Morgaphool in Bengali, Myrakshipa in Telugu and Mayur Chudiya in Odia. Uses:
Mayura shikha is an herb that has been used in Ayurveda for centuries. It is a member of the parsley family and has a long history of use as a herb.
Mayura shikha's main use is as an anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial agent, but it also has some other uses. For example, it is used to treat diabetes and chronic pain, as well as gastrointestinal issues like diarrhea and constipation. It can also be used to treat snakebites or other types of poisoning.
It's most common use, however, is in treating hyperglycemia—a condition marked by high levels of sugar in the blood—which is seen in diabetics and those with kidney disease. A decoction of Mayura shikha is given to treat this condition, along with cold infusion or fresh juice made from Mayura Shikha roots (or the bark).
This combination works well because both herbs are anti-inflammatory agents that help manage blood glucose levels without causing hypoglycemia or having any other negative side effects like nausea or vomiting (which can happen when using insulin too soon after ingesting sugar). Mayura shikha can also be used topically on wounds or burns to promote healing.
