In Ayurveda, diarrhoea is referred to as Atisar. It occurs due to improper food, impure water, toxins, mental stress and Agnimandya (weak digestive fire). These things collectively cause Vata to become aggravated. This heightened Vata moves fluid from numerous bodily tissues to the intestines where it combines with the stool and causes loose, watery motions or diarrhoea. Pittapapada's Grahi (absorbent) property aids in the control of diarrhoea. It lessens the frequency of watery stools and aids in absorbing excessive water loss.

The ingestion of food may not be fully digested due to poor digestive fire (Mand agni), resulting in the production of Ama (toxic remains in the body due to improper digestion). This could result in aruchi, commonly known as loss of appetite or anorexia in Ayurveda. Vata, Pitta, and Kapha doshas become unbalanced as a result of this disorder. Additionally, some psychological issues can result in inadequate gastric juice secretion in the stomach, which decreases appetite by impairing proper meal digestion. Pittapapada's Pitta-Kapha balancing qualities aid in the treatment of anorexia. This has the Rochaka (taste enhancer) characteristic, which further lowers anorexia, and helps avoid the formation of Ama.

Agnimandya is the Ayurvedic name for indigestion. It happens as a result of a Pitta dosha imbalance. The production of Ama (toxic leftovers in the body as a result of faulty digestion) happens whenever the ingested meal is left undigested due to Mand agni (low digestive fire), which also causes indigestion.
