According to the botanical information, the entire wood apple plant is regarded as beneficial to human health. The fruit, which the Hindus revere as sacred, is rich in fiber, vitamins, and other components vital to human health.

Bael, or wood apple, is a native of India, Malaysia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and other Southeast Asian nations. It is also known as Bilva in Sanskrit, Bilva Pazham in Tamil, Bilva or Maredu Phalam in Telugu, and Bengal Quince.

Aegle marmelos, also known as bael, is a medium-sized tree with slender branches and pale brown bark that frequently oozes a tasty gum. Bael leaves are particularly unusual because they are trifoliate, which means that each leaf has between four and twelve pairs of side veins that abut at the margin.

Despite being interchangeable, the term "Wood Apple" should not be mistaken with another fruit of a similar name (Kaitha Bael in Hindi, Velaga Pandu in Telugu, and Vilam Palam in Tamil) that bears the botanical name Limonia acidissima.

The globose Bael fruits have a hard exterior and don't split open even when they are fully ripe. When the fruits are unripe, they have a greenish grey colour and a woody exterior that turns yellow. The fragrant pulp of the ripe fruit contains 10 to 15 seeds that are encased in a sac that is naturally sticky.

Hindu scriptures also place a great deal of religious emphasis on the bael tree. The goodness of this botanical marvel was specifically mentioned in the Rig Veda, and it is also thought to be the home of Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity. It is said to be the favourite tree of Lord Maha Shiva. A significant component of Lord Shiva worship is bilva leaves and fruits.

Belgiri Dry is the dried form of the fruit obtained from the Aegle marmelos, commonly known as bael or wood apple. It is traditionally used in beverages and natural food preparations.
Belgiri Dry is dried Bael fruit from Aegle marmelos, also called Bilva, Bail fruit, Stone Apple or Wood Apple. It is traditionally valued in Ayurveda for digestive wellness formulations, especially where the fruit pulp or rind is used in powders, decoctions and classical preparations.
Bael fruit is widely searched for digestion because traditional use associates the dried fruit with gut comfort and bowel balance. However, digestive problems can have many causes, so persistent loose motion, dehydration, fever, blood in stool or severe abdominal pain should be treated as medical concerns.
Fresh Bael fruit is usually eaten or prepared as a drink when ripe, while dry Belgiri is a shelf-stable herbal raw material used in powders, decoctions and formulations. Dry pieces are more concentrated and should be used more carefully than a casual fresh fruit serving.
Good dried Bael fruit should be hard, properly dried, naturally brownish, mildly fruity-herbal in smell and free from mold, insects, excess seeds, stones, dampness or artificial coloring. Very black, sticky, fungus-smelling or overly dusty pieces should be avoided.
Belgiri Dry is traditionally boiled in water for decoction-style preparations, but the amount and duration depend on the intended formulation. Use moderate quantities, strain well, and avoid long-term unsupervised use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, constipated, diabetic or taking medicines.
People with chronic constipation, intestinal obstruction symptoms, pregnancy, diabetes medication use or long-term digestive illness should seek professional guidance before using dried Bael fruit. It is a traditional raw herb and should not replace diagnosis or treatment for digestive disorders.
