Gloriosa Superba (Kalihari roots) is an ayurvedic herb with muscle relaxing, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic properties. 

THIOCOLCHICOSIDE, a semi-synthetic derivative of COLCHICOSIDE, an alkaloid and active substance found in Gloriosa Superba, is used in modern medicine (Kalihari root).

It is also used to relax muscles, as an analgesic, and as an anti-inflammatory. It works as a GLYCINE receptor antagonist as well as a GABAA receptor antagonist.

Medicinal Uses & Health Benefits:

Kalihari root is used to treat all of the health conditions listed above in the therapeutic indications. It primarily affects parasites, pain, and inflammation. 

Dysmenorrhea (Painful periods): It also functions as an emmenagogue, promoting the free flow of menstrual blood and providing relief from abdominal cramps and lower abdominal pain during periods. In Ayurveda, it is combined with coral calcium to increase its effectiveness. In dysmenorrhea, 125 mg is taken four times a day with Praval Pisthi and honey. 

Alopecia areata: The affected area of the scalp is treated with a Kalihari root powder pack (lep). It aids in the eradication of fungal infections and promotes the growth of new hairs. 

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Gloriosa Superba (Kalihari) should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Because it contains toxins and has abortifacient properties, it can cause miscarriage. It can be released into breast milk during breastfeeding and have an adverse effect on the newborn child.
