Description
IndianJadiBooti Many nutrients are abundant in Spirulina. Spirulina is a water-growing organism that can thrive in both fresh and saline water. It is a form of cyanobacteria, which is a group of single-celled microorganisms known as blue-green algae.
Cyanobacteria, like plants, can generate energy from sunlight through a process known as photosynthesis. Spirulina was consumed by the ancient Aztecs but gained popularity again when NASA claimed that it could be cultivated in space for astronauts to utilize. A typical daily dose of spirulina is 1-3 grams, but doses as high as 10 grammes per day have been used successfully.
This small alga is high in nutrients. A single tablespoon (7 grams) of dry spirulina powder includes the following nutrients:
- 4 gram protein
- Thiamine (Vitamin B1): 11% of the RDA
- Riboflavin (Vitamin B2): 15% of the RDA
- Vitamin B3 (niacin): 4% of the RDA
- Copper accounts for 21% of the RDA.
- 11 percent of the RDA for iron
- It also has adequate levels of magnesium, potassium, and manganese, as well as trace amounts of practically every other nutrient.
Furthermore, the same amount has only 20 calories and 1.7 grams of digestible carbohydrates. Spirulina may be the most nutritious food on the planet gram for gram. A tablespoon (7 grams) of spirulina has a little quantity of fat — about 1 gram — with a 1.5-1.0 ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids.
The protein in spirulina is of great quality, equivalent to eggs. It provides all of the necessary amino acids.
Spirulina does not contain vitamin B12, as is sometimes believed. It contains pseudo vitamin B12, which has not been demonstrated to be useful in people.
Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties are extremely potent: Your DNA and cells can be harmed by oxidative damage. This damage has the potential to cause persistent inflammation, which contributes to cancer and other disorders. Spirulina is high in antioxidants, which can protect against oxidative damage.
Its main active ingredient is known as phycocyanin. This antioxidant compound is also responsible for spirulina's distinctive blue-green color.
Phycocyanin has powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, since it may fight free radicals and limit the synthesis of inflammatory signaling molecules.
Other Names: Arthrospira Platensis
