Description
Lasoda, commonly known as Glueberry, Nisori, or Gondi, is a wild fruit thriving in hot, sandy regions. This fruit is typically found in the Himalayas, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. Known for its sticky texture, Lasoda can lower blood pressure and reduce allergic reactions in the body.
The Lasoda tree is valued for its durable wood, which is termite-resistant and believed to bring tranquility when kept indoors. In rural areas, the bark is occasionally chewed as a substitute for betel leaf, turning the mouth and tongue red. The wood is also crafted into a traditional tool called Mathani.
Lasoda aka Glueberry, scientifically named Cordia myxa, is renowned for its nutritional benefits. Predominantly growing in Rajasthan and Gujarat, its unripe green fruit is used in pickles or soups, while the ripe fruit becomes sweet and edible raw. For centuries, this plant has been utilized in herbal medicine for its various benefits.
Benefits of Glueberry
-
Cough and Respiratory Issues
Glueberry's anti-inflammatory properties can alleviate cough and chest congestion. The mucilaginous fruit pulp helps soothe cough symptoms, and applying tree bark powder topically aids in the healing of broken bones.
-
High Blood Pressure
High blood pressure is a prevalent condition worldwide. Cordia myxa exhibits antihypertensive effects, managing blood pressure and reducing oxidative stress over five weeks. Research on rabbits confirmed that mucilage from both ripe and unripe Glueberry fruits contains blood pressure-lowering properties.
-
Antidiabetic Property
Beneficial for diabetes patients, Glueberry contains diuretic compounds. Its anti-diabetic properties, though not as potent as Metformin, it aids those with abnormal blood sugar levels.
-
Liver Healing
Lasoda has liver-healing properties. Components like oils, glycosides, flavonoids, sterols, saponins, terpenoids, alkaloids, phenolic acids, coumarins, tannins, resins, gums, and mucilage contribute to liver health.
-
Anti-Ulcer Benefits
Lasora fruit extracts protect the stomach from ulcers.
-
Joint Pain and Arthritis
Regular consumption of Glueberry can alleviate joint pain for arthritis sufferers. It has analgesic properties, though it should not replace with prescribed medication.
Usage of Glueberries (Gunda or Lesua)
