Molsari (Chaal) – Maulsari Chhal – Moulsiri Chal – Mollsiri Bark – Mimusops Elengi – Spanish Cherry – Bakul – मौलसिरी छाल

  • Best For: Oral health (bleeding gums, loose teeth, gingivitis, mouth ulcers), women's health (leucorrhea), digestive disorders (diarrhea, dysentery), respiratory issues (cough, asthma), skin problems (wounds, ulcers), fever, and as a natural astringent and coolant.
  • Purity: 100% pure and naturally dried bark of Mimusops elengi. Ethically sourced, free from preservatives, additives, or artificial colors. Rich in tannins, alkaloids, flavonoids, and saponins.
  • Key Fact: Known as "Bakul" in Ayurveda, it balances Kapha and Pitta doshas with its astringent and cooling properties. Modern research validates its antibacterial, anticariogenic (anti-cavity), antihyperglycemic, and antioxidant activities.
  • Usage: For oral health, use bark powder as tooth powder or decoction as gargle. For decoction, boil 10-20g bark in water until reduced, strain and drink 20-40ml twice daily. For external use, apply paste on wounds. Avoid in severe Vata imbalances.

Molsari Chaal (also known as Maulsari, Bakul, or Spanish Cherry Bark). Molsari (Mimusops elengi) is historically celebrated as one of the best herbs for "Vajradanti" (diamond-strong teeth). In Ayurveda, it is classified as Kashaya (astringent) and Sita (cooling), making it highly effective at balancing Pitta and Kapha doshas.

Core Ayurvedic Benefits

1. Supreme Oral & Dental Health

  • Strengthens Gums: It is most famous for its ability to tighten loose teeth and strengthen spongy, bleeding gums.
  • Tooth Sensitivity & Cavities: Its antimicrobial properties help fight tooth decay and reduce sensitivity to heat and cold.
  • Bad Breath (Mukh-Durgandha): It acts as a natural mouth freshener by clearing the toxins and bacteria that cause mouth odor.

2. Digestive & Intestinal Support

  • Chronic Diarrhea & Dysentery: Due to its Grahi (absorbent) and astringent nature, the bark decoction is used to treat chronic loose motions and intestinal irritations.
  • Stomachic Tonic: It helps in toning the digestive tract and improving appetite when consumed in controlled dosages.

3. Women's Health

  • Fertility & Uterine Support: Traditionally, Molsari bark is used in folk medicine to support female fertility and manage excessive menstrual bleeding.

4. Cooling & Anti-Inflammatory

  • Fever & Headache: The bark is used to reduce "Pitta-related" fevers and alleviate persistent headaches or sinusitis when used as a nasal treatment (Nasya) or decoction.
  • Wound Healing: Applied topically, it helps in the faster healing of oral ulcers and minor skin cuts.

How to Use Molsari Chaal (Bark)

Purpose

Usage Method

For Gum Health & Loose Teeth

Boil 5-10g of the bark in 2 cups of water until it reduces to half. Use this warm decoction as a mouthwash/gargle twice daily.

As a Tooth Powder

Grind the dried bark into a fine powder. Mix with a pinch of salt and clove powder. Massage gently on gums and teeth for 2 minutes, then rinse.

For Diarrhea / Dysentery

Mix 1-2 grams of the powder with lukewarm water or honey. Take twice daily after meals.

For Sore Throat

Gargle with the bark decoction (Kadha) 2-3 times a day to reduce inflammation and pain.

For Mouth Ulcers

Apply a paste of the bark powder mixed with a little honey directly on the ulcer for 5-10 minutes.

Ayurvedic Consultant’s Notes & Precautions

  • Vajradanti Quality: Because it is so effective for dental strength, it is a primary ingredient in many traditional "Vajradanti" toothpastes.
  • Astringent Nature: Because it is highly astringent (Kashaya), it can cause dryness. If taking it internally for digestion, ensure you stay well-hydrated.
  • Dosage: Always start with a small amount (1-2g) when consuming internally. For external dental use, it is generally very safe.

Note: For chronic dental issues like pyorrhea or mobile teeth, it is recommended to use the bark gargle consistently for at least 21 days.

What are the key Ayurvedic uses of Molsari (Maulsari Bark)?
Molsari, or Mimusops Elengi, is traditionally valued in Ayurveda for its potent astringent and cooling properties. It is primarily used to support oral health and promote healthy skin and tissue vitality.

Molsari Chaal, also called Maulsari Chhal or Bakul Bark, comes from Mimusops elengi, an evergreen tree valued for fragrant flowers and traditional bark use. The bark is searched especially in oral-care and astringent herbal contexts.
Bakul bark is traditionally valued as an astringent bark and is searched for tooth powder, gum-care and mouth-rinse formulations. This should be framed as traditional oral-care use, not as a cure for gum disease, cavities or dental infection.
Good Molsari Chaal should be clean, dry, naturally bark-like, free from mould, insects, excess dust and unrelated wood chips. It should not smell damp or chemical-treated, and the pieces should look consistent with bark rather than random woody waste.
No. Molsari Chaal is the bark of Mimusops elengi, while Bakul flowers are a different plant part valued for fragrance and other traditional uses. Bark, flower, fruit and seed are not interchangeable in herbal formulations.
Molsari Chaal is traditionally used in decoction or powder-based oral-care preparations, but serious gum bleeding, tooth pain, swelling or infection needs a dentist. Herbal mouth care should support hygiene, not replace dental treatment.
Use Bakul Bark cautiously if pregnant, breastfeeding, giving to children or using it internally. For oral use, avoid swallowing concentrated preparations in large amounts, and stop use if irritation, dryness or allergy occurs.
